TRUST ME

This project is different from the previous ones but it arises from my experience with them; It appears from my personal fascination for the pictures of people coming out with eyes closed, generally taken as an error. In this project I search exactly what people usually discard.

In the vast majority of these images, which are created by chance, people have some kind of expressive gesture and movement that link directly with one precise moment: with our outside, but some of them contain what appears to be an inner silence and isolation with the outside world caused by the lack of expression and eyes closed. I look for this gesture. Within the body language the thing we pay attention more is the expresión of the eyes. We think that the eyes express or reveal the moods and a face without a look shows something different. We are not used to understand other ways of expression.

I seek that other expression, what is hidden behind the look.

But the project is more complex. In one hand It speaks about the image we project abroad and in the other it speaks about the trust.

It is in the eye where we put more trust, not only to suggest but to understand what happens around us. The eyes are our most direct touch with reality. It is when we close our eyes when we can abandon ourselves. It is a sign of confidence from the models who pose for me, their confidence placed in me, a stranger.

I ask them in the street to make a picture and I also ask them to close their eyes. So, in one hand I search the faces without a gaze, and for another I show the confidence or lack of it of the people that I am portraying.

To display this action in higher degree in the photographs I add some of the phrases I use to contact people that I intend to portray:
“-HELLO MY NAME IS IRUNE, I AM AN ARTIST. CAN I TAKE A PICTURE OF YOU, PLEASE?
- THANK YOU, CLOSE YOUR EYES. “

Thus I include myself to my own artwork and I reaffirm to myself as an artist, in the other other hand I also make a document of the action.

At the exhibition I will show the photographs with the findings and the failures of my exploration. I will show the portraits I have got and the blank portraits . This is an exploration of people towards me and me as an artist to people. The photographs are meant to be displayed all together, and it will be written on the wall one of the phrases I use to contact people in the street. The sentences will be pasted on a frame with vinyl letters. And the photographs are of 70x50cm., in high quality mate Lambda Paper.
